EDELMIRA ALBUIXECH ARNAU

The sister of my grandmother was born in 1933. Her name is Edelmira Albuixech Arnau and this is her story.

When she was a child she had to help her parents to sell newspapers at the newsagents. Her father was blind so this was a very big handicap.
In 1948, when she was 15 years old , her mother her sister and she moved to Paris to earn some money. While the women were earning money my grandmother’s dad and her brother stayed in Anlgemesí.

After being some years in Paris, Edel came to spain and taught French for five years. In the academy she met Manolo and suddenly she fell in love with him, after a couple of years the got married.
1958 was very important year for her, she got married and also had her first son, Jose.
At first it wasn’t an easy life, Manolo was always working and Edel’s father was very ill, Jose was just a baby and they didn’t have much money.
But in the end everything went right and they got a good standard of living.

Nowadays Edel is still alive and she’s 83 years old. She has had a difficult life but she has known how to solve all the problems.
She’s a fighter and a really brave woman, also like a grandmother for me and an example to follow.

Grandad Isidro was born in Salobreña, Grandad, Spain, in 1930. But then, when he was seven years, his family and he left home and moved to Casares, in Málaga, where he worked as hepherd.
When he was Shepherd, a day while he was walking with the sheep, he fell and he got hurt in the leg with a hoe. He could have lost his leg, but no, he recovered.
He is and was feminist, so he wanted equality for all. And in 1950 he moved to Valencia, where he went to many demonstrations of human rights. He’s an excellent person.
In Valencia, in 1951, while he was in the park with his friends, he met my grandmother, Encarna, a very lovely person.
But in 1953, my grandad went to the military service for eighteen months.
When he returned from military service he fell in love of Encarna, she was fair-skinned, thin, curly-blonde-haired and very beautiful.
In the end, Isidro and Encarna got married, and they had four children (Isi, José, Raquel and Rafa).
Today he continues fighting for equality. He’s inspired me to be brave and follow what I want to accomplish, like him.
I love him! Thanks Isidro!

She always says that the first labor, when I was born, in 2001, was a totaly adventury because she didn’t know anything of that, and she had apprehesion. In my brother, she was already safe.

Her favourite travel was in 2010, when she was 40 years, she and four childhood friends went to Madrid. My mum says that they had a
great time.

Her favourite time during the day is when she is doing sport, she likes this moment a lot.

In the 1969s she got married with my grandfather Vicent, a man who met when she was Child. They were very in love, so they decided to go to live to another house in Algemesí.

1973 was a very special year for Lola. Her first daughter was born, my mother. In 1977 my uncle was born and he was special too. And in the end my godfather was born. The three births were very important to my grandparents.

My grandmother likes traveling to another countries a lot with her friends and when she has holidays, they try to travel. When she has time, she paints paintings, I have one in my bedroom. And sometimes she sews. She did this hobby with her mother in the past so she has good memories.

He was a competitive man and a little grumpy but he was a great person. He likes making mockup with recyclable material. I remember that all christmas, he dressed up as Santa Claus and gave me a lot of presents. When I was 4, he told me a lot of fantastic stories when I went to bed in his house, unfortunately I don’t have a lot of memories about him, but I know that I love him and he loves me. One of the most interesting events in his life was that in 1962, he won a mockup competition, he mades the bulls place with toothpick, my grandmother had a big photo of this moment in her livingroom.
I don’t know more because I don’t remember his life because he died some time ago. My grandfather liked doing craft, he liked cooking too (his best dish was “semola”) but he loved me and my cousins, we always visited him and he loved we played all day with him, it was a great time. He died in 2007, he would have liked to see his grandchildren grow.
